Almost all women assume that they will be able to have children someday, even if they’re not sure they want to; the potential to have them is important even to women who never intend to use that potential. Tips for Combating Negative Thoughts While TTC

Many couples become emotionally distressed when they face conception problems. These negative emotions breed more negative thought forms, which then reinforce other unpleasant feelings even leading to depression.

Getting a grip on our negative mental ‘chatterbox‘ (our mental self talk) and preventing depression before it creeps in can make a huge difference for many couples and improve the odds of natural conception (even in difficult cases). Establish a positive thinking attitude! Try to act pregnant now to get pregnant later. Thinking and acting like one is pregnant is key to having a positive attitude.

Amazing new research shows that the brain does not know the difference between a vividly imagined situation and something that is (or has) actually taken place—so it’s key to take advantage of this, for the sake of your fertility! For some people, getting into a positive frame of mind is easier said than done, so … what to do?

1. Identify

This is what it is, identifying a negative thought when it sneaks up.  “I’ll never get pregnant” is a common example of one such negative thought.  Once you’ve learned to notice the negative thought forms, identify what’s triggering them.

2. Redirect

This is simply replacing a negative thought with a positive one.  For example, replace “I’ll never get pregnant” with “I’m sure I’ll be pregnant soon.”  If you allow yourself to keep thinking negative, then only negativity will come to you!

Instead of putting all your energy into “woe is me,” try picturing yourself in the midst of a healthy pregnancy and then embracing the healthy baby of your dreams!  Visualize you and your partner cradling a beautiful infant. Imagine those first flutterings of new life. The more you get into it and the more real you make it in your mind, the more chance you have of ‘coaxing’ your body into that reality.

3. Take time for yourself every day.

Even if it’s five or 10 minutes where you put your feet up and zone out, it allows your body a quick recharge. When your life centers around trying to conceive the focus changes to the end result instead of the process. Don’t forget you are a part of the process, and it’s important you remain healthy, clear, and balanced.

4. Surround yourself with positive words and phrases

If you are having a hard time staying positive during preconception, then put up note cards with positive words and phrases on them. At least you will read them and your brain will take note of them several times a day. Place one on your bathroom mirror, on your computer, in your car, taped to the back of your cell phone, etc. Repeat them aloud or in your head. Use words such as “create,” “beautiful,” “healthy body,” “balanced,” “normal cycle,” “healthy eggs and sperm,” “healthy cervical fluid,” “regular ovulation.” Try phrases such as “I am a healthy woman.” “My uterus and ovaries are ready to create a baby.” “My partner and I are wonderful parents.” Try using any word or phrase that makes you smile when you see them.

5. Break the Monotony

Many couples, who have problems conceiving, often find themselves sexually bored, which can lead to relationship problems and increases the chance of depression. If sex is allowed to become nothing more than a means of making a baby, it can quickly lose its fire!

Try to keep loving fun!  Sex should be a private celebration of your love and passion for one another, so try to keep some spontaneity and enjoy each other! For the past twenty years numerous studies have been conducted regarding the effects of stress and negative thinking on human fertility.

Findings have indicated that relaxation techniques including meditation, along with positive thinking techniques dramatically increased the odds of conception.The power of the mind is an amazing thing.  Our very lives are oftentimes the result of our own thought patterns, whether they be positive or negative ones.  When you think wholeheartedly upon something, you put energy into that thought form, which it in turn released into your environment. What we focus on expands… so think fertile!

6. Eliminate the negativity around you.

Connect with positive people, read positive books, watch happy, positive movies. Don’t let negative people or images drag you down while you’re trying to conceive. Create healthy boundaries and buy yourself a “no” button. It’s OK to say “no” and put yourself first.

It is very easy to get negative when trying to conceive. We all carry around our own beliefs about how easy it will be to get pregnant. Many of us believe that you simply stop birth control and you instantly get pregnant. Contrast with the fact that the average woman only has a 20 to 25 percent chance to get pregnant—less if she’s older—and many will be disappointed and maybe even a bit worried with their first try. For those having problems conceiving, there is the monthly cycle of disappointment and hope which can really wear you down.

Bonding With Your Unborn Baby

 

Every pregnancy and every pregnant woman is unique. There is no such thing as ‘normal' when it comes to emotions during pregnancy. While some women may feel an instant connection to their unborn child from the moment they pee on the stick, for others it can take until the birth (or even after the birth) for that connection to truly take hold.


It may not be something that many pregnant women discuss openly, but in fact a lot of women do struggle to bond with their babies during pregnancy. If this is your first pregnancy, those first rushes from inside your uterus can be hard to identify as your baby's movements. If you have experienced loss before, you may find it hard to think positively about the pregnancy, and may subconsciously be delaying bonding as a form of self protection. Or, perhaps, you are simply bonding with your baby in your own time.
Pregnancy can be a daunting time, and you may feel so overwhelmed with the pregnancy and impending motherhood that you feel simply unable to bond with your baby just yet. As you grow closer to your due date, you may feel worried that you do not yet feel that connection with your baby.

Baby Bonding Tip #1: Use Your Voice


When your baby is born, she will recognize your voice and turn towards you whenever she hears it. She will remember your voice because she has spent months listening to you give presentations at work, natter to your mum on the phone, and belt out tunes like, “R-E-S-P-E-C-T!” in the shower. Spend some time each day talking to your baby, telling her about the things you will do together, and how you are feeling that day. You may find that your baby responds to the sound of your voice, and begins kicking and nudging you as you talk. If you feel uncomfortable talking to your bump, trying singing instead.


Baby Bonding Tip #2: Nudge Back


For now, your baby's only method of communication is bumps, kicks and nudges. You have probably noticed that your baby becomes particularly active when you sit down to rest. Play with your baby by responding to her movements, gently poke back when she nudges you, and see what she does. You can also rub your belly in the area you feel movements.

Baby Bonding Tip #3: Go To Yoga


Prenatal yoga classes give you a chance to escape the humdrum of daily life, and focus on your pregnancy for a while. The yoga teacher will talk you through each pose, explaining how it is beneficial during pregnancy. You will also be given time to relax and focus on your developing baby. This is a great way to guarantee yourself time to focus, which can be difficult to find when you are tying up loose ends at work, packing a hospital bag and preparing the house for a new baby. Baby Bonding Tip #4: Make A Keepsake


Invest some time in making a gift or keepsake for your developing baby. You could knit or crochet a blanket to wrap her in after the birth, make a quilt for her new nursery, or make a framed picture to hang on her wall. If you are a beginner, choose an easy project to begin with. You may even like to make a pregnant belly cast (closer to your due date) to remember your beautifully round belly forever. You can paint and decorate it afterwards, or have a belly cast artist decorate it for you. You might choose to have baby’s footprints on the cast, the whole family’s handprints, or any other themes you might think of.

Baby Bonding Tip #5: Take Bump Photos


Not only will your own photos make a lovely keepsake once the pregnancy is over, but will also help you to focus on your growing baby during pregnancy. Set a time each week to take a photograph of yourself sideways on. As you compare the bump photos from each week, you will be able to see how much your baby is changing and growing during the pregnancy. This visual reminder may help to make the pregnancy seem more real, and will give you time to reflect upon the changes occurring. Booking a professional pregnancy photo shoot towards the end of your pregnancy can make you feel special too, where yourself and your partner (or yourself alone) can have some gorgeous moments captured by a professional, that you will no doubt treasure forever.

Baby Bonding Tip #6: Slow Down


Yes, there is a lot to do before the baby arrives, but you don't need to do it all today. You need more rest during pregnancy, so try to slow down and take it easy for a while. Set aside time each day to simply sit and focus on your pregnancy – not a time to write more to do lists or pick out baby furniture – but just a time to sit and think about your developing baby. You could combine this with a walk or relaxing bath if this helps you to fit it into your schedule. Delegate where you can, and don’t feel bad getting help around the home, its very common these days! Accepting offers of help can really take a load off, and remember, people wouldn’t offer if they didn’t want to help. Baby Bonding Tip #9: Write It Down Consider keeping a pregnancy journal to help you focus on the pregnancy. Don't worry about writing a rose-tinted view of pregnancy, just be honest. Talk about how you feel physically, and any worries and concerns you might be feeling. This may help to identify what is causing any anxiety, and help you take steps to overcome it.

Baby Bonding Tip #7. Focus On Your Good Points


One reason some women fail to bond with their bumps, is that they are too busy worrying that they will be terrible mothers. Some women suffer from anxiety-filled dreams, or worry that they will repeat the mistakes of past generations. Stop worrying. Push the negativity aside, and instead focus on all of the things that will make you a wonderful mother. Write them down and stick them on the fridge… okay, on your bedroom door is fine if you wish. Think about the type of mother you want to be, and how you will go about that. Increased positivity may help you to better look forward to motherhood. Some mothers find that they gain more confidence by reading good books to help give them more knowledge and tools.

I mean, if you are not going to get folate from foods, you should take a supplement, but also try to make sure that your diet is rich in those foods as well.

You need the folic acid to be in your system even before getting pregnant, since folic acid is one of the building blocks for a healthy baby. If you have a family history of birth defects, your doctor might want you to take as much as 4000 micrograms per day. Folic acid doesn’t stay in your system for very long either so it is one of those things that you will need to eat or take a supplement of every day.

Is it okay to diet before trying to conceive?
Yes. Your chances of conceiving and having a healthy pregnancy are greater if you're close to your ideal weight. Being overweight can cause abnormal menstrual cycles, which can lead to infertility. Overweight women are also more likely to have pregnancy complications such as hypertension and diabetes and more difficult deliveries.

How extra weight influence fertility?


If you have a healthy BMI of 20 to 25, you generally have about a 15 to 20 percent chance of getting pregnant in any particular month if you’re under the age of 35. However, as you gain weight and enter the obese category (BMI greater than or equal to 30), this rate can significantly decline.
Extra weight can interfere with the healthy production of hormones needed for conception. Excess fat tissue can cause you to produce too much estrogen throughout your menstrual cycle, inhibiting fertility. Being overweight can also impact other hormones that cause menstrual irregularities and prevent ovulation.
Additionally, fat tissue may increase cholesterol and abnormal lipids levels, discouraging healthy blood flow to the uterine lining. This can prevent a fertilized egg from implanting in the uterine wall or can make keeping a pregnancy difficult.

How Being Underweight Affects Conception?

Being underweight doesn’t affect the fertility of all women. The affects of weight vary with each individual; it isn’t an issue unless it disrupts ovulation and the menstrual cycle. If a woman has a low BMI, has a sufficient diet, and doesn’t exercise excessively, it generally means that she is naturally thin and fertility problems are minimal concerning weight. However, the Southern California Reproductive Center found that if a woman had a low BMI because she followed a rigorous workout routine and had an insufficient diet, she will have difficulty with fertility.
Dr. Wendy Chang, M.D., of ARC Fertility, suggests that a woman whose physical activeness is causing menstrual and ovulation problems should, for the sake of fertility, consider a realistic exercise program and eat a calorie-appropriate diet. Also, keeping yourself psychologically healthy is important too, as it’s not always easy to change one’s lifestyle.


Weight in relation to fertility is a curious thing; too much or too little can contribute to fertility problems. If you have concerns about your weight and fertility, it is suggested consulting a reproductive endocrinologist who can not only provide fertility testing but also recommend various weight loss / gain programs, nutritionists and psychological counseling.

Gently insert the narrow end of the applicator deep into the vagina and squeeze the bulb end 2-3 times to deposit Conceive Plus into the vaginal cavity. Remove while continuing to squeeze the bulb end and discard. Each applicator is for single use only and cannot be stored after opening or reused. May be applied 10-15 minutes prior to sexual activity to allow moisture to disperse throughout the vagina.
